Customer wanted me to design a glass case around his wine rack, so I did.
Please excuse the funhouse effect of my old Galaxy S7, the glass is not warped, and I’m not springing for a new phone.
No need for doxxing today.
For the record, the censored poster board said something rude about your significant other.
Anyway... Kind of cool , was fun to do something a little different. I’m much happier with the master closet but that’s a post for another time... Or never.

Why did he want that?
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:09 |

That’s an interesting choice if it’s to actually store a significant amount of wine because it’s not climate controlled or light protected.
I very much like the handles you did.

That flooring makes me want to tear mine out and try to do it better
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:12 |

Ha jokes on you, I don’t have a significant other! I’m hopelessly alone!
Also looks very nice, though I’m surprised someone spending that much on wine storage wouldn’t want a fancy climate controlled setup.

Is that a philosophical question or a rhetorical one?
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:14 |

Philosophical... He’s just making access to the happy juice harder...
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:17 |

Most of the ones I do would have climate control set up, I feel he’ll end up adding it. which is easy-ish because the back wall is accessible through the pantry.

The copper handles are neat.

I was thinking of that as I typed, but I thought I should refrain from being depressing.

He needs more wine.
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:41 |

Your points are still valid, having a glass encased
wine rack makes absolutely
no sense. It’s called a wine cellar
for a reason.

Treated cedar on the inside?
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:48 |

He should have installed an alcohol tap. Plumbed it in through the fridge.
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:48 |

Make no sense if your goal is optimally preserve/age wine. Makes perfect sense if your goal is to showcase your wealth/decadence.
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:48 |

Well, I think he just installed some hardwood flooring vertically!
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:48 |

And also upside down
![]() 04/23/2019 at 19:49 |

The latter is the entire point, yes.

GENIUS!

That’s pretty neat, and well-done

Or if you drink that much wine that fast.
![]() 04/23/2019 at 20:04 |

I like it (not that that’s important). It’s pretty. I’m not a wine drinker so the practicality or climate control stuff doesn’t bother me.

That’s the decadence bit.
![]() 04/23/2019 at 20:13 |

Tear out the wine rack, screw some hooks into the ceiling, hang part of a cow to age. There, fixed it.

Your client apparently doesn’t know shit about wine, but you clearly know a lot about glass—what a beautiful way to torture a bunch of wine to death.

How are the panel gaps though? Is it contained enough to not be energy wasteful?
![]() 04/23/2019 at 20:26 |
|
There is vinyl at all the seams. Bu t basically *c an’t* help be wasteful unless you install a climate control system inside. The R-value of typical tempered glass with no lam is... R-eally low.

Pardon me, I have to inspect * my* climate-controlled box that holds all my alcohol.

Yay beer!

I actually looked into this as I was building my island. I determined the weakest link in the project would be my liver.

i like it.
![]() 04/23/2019 at 22:01 |

That looks very nice. Your client has his priorities mixed up. It should be diecasts or a suit of armor in there.

That’s awesome, well the glass part, idk about enclosing wine? Does your company produce and cut the glass as well? Or are you just design/sales?
![]() 04/24/2019 at 08:51 |
|
The latter. We *have* some glass that we fabricate on hand, but we don't have a tempering plant. We source that elsewhere.
![]() 04/24/2019 at 09:00 |

What’s something like that cost for the consumer 5-6k?
![]() 04/24/2019 at 09:04 |
|
Less, as this is actually a relatively small opening (38" x 19" x 107"). But hoooo boy, you build this a few feet wider the you're damn close to your guess.

So you’re saying I have a future in chandelier inspection lol

It’s not a glamorous life but it’s the one I lead -- but also, the prostitution.
![]() 04/24/2019 at 12:53 |

Well, see, exactly. It’s not very hard. Here’s how to store wine if you want it to not die and also you don’t care about showing it off: 1. find a dark closet that doesn’t have a heat register in it, such as those found in 99% of human habitations in the developed world; 2. put wine in the bottom of it.
Really beautiful glass enclosure, though, seriously. I want to take a shower in it.

Is it deep enough that you can still get bottles in and out from the top?
